Setting your gaze within

At some point in your life you may have felt like things are not going your way. It feels like there are forces at work that are going against all your efforts. You want to make that change but you aren't sure where to start. This was something I fought with initially and I found that I had to begin with awareness & drive.
The truth is that many of us want to change to improve ourselves. Some of us don’t actually get to that start because we lack the drive to change or we don’t allocate enough time to towards achieving this change. For some others it may be the fear of looking inwards, not knowing (or maybe knowing) that we won’t like what we find.
Awareness & drive were the fuel to set me on a path to better myself.
How does that work, you may ask. Well, first, I became aware of the situation I was in. I took notes of things in my situation that I wanted to change. They seemed like small things. Some of the things I wrote were like - I want to change how productive I am. I want to be less emotionally affected by the things that happen in my environment. This gave me the awareness of knowing what exactly I wanted to change.
I personally feel that sometimes we feel "Why change? Things will happen as they have to", but unless you can convince yourself your life now can't be better, there is a reason to start making a change.
As I kept seeing these patterns repeat in my behaviour, I began to realise that these problems that seemed small to me were actually the roots of what I did not want in my life. And as it became more apparent to me that I was unhappy in so many situations, it built this urge in me to want to get rid of it.
If you are only happy in 20% of your interactions with other people or yourself and you could find a way to increase that, you would and you should. But only when I realised that it was ONLY 20% and I kept track of how I felt outside of the 20%, did I get that drive. Like someone lit a fire under me to do whatever it takes to be happier. A drive that made me want the 20% to be as close to 100%. It was up to me to make that change.
This drive and awareness served as a plan. It did not (and still won't) make sense to start a journey to better myself, if I am not even aware of what I have to change.
Start by taking the step towards awareness and let that build a drive in you. When you will want the change bad enough you will be able to overcome all obstacles in your way to achieve it.
This is just the tip of the iceberg and I cannot possibly sum up everything about a topic into one blog post. So do keep a look out for updates on my Instagram page as everything pieced together will serve as a guideline. I will leave you a quote and if some of you need a guide, here are some questions you can use to introspect.
True transformation isn’t just looking forward. Transformation requires you to go backwards, to create awareness of the foundation & patterns in order to move forward.”
